Works of Mercy
Matthew 25 31-46

I.- Corporal works of mercy:
Most of them come from a list made by the Lord in his description of the Last Judgment. Are:
1) Visit the sick
2) Feed the hungry
3) Give drink to the thirsty
4) Give lodging to the pilgrim
5) Dress naked
6) Visit prisoners
7) Bury the deceased
II.- Spiritual works of mercy:
They have been taken by the Church from other texts throughout the Bible and from the attitudes and teachings of Christ himself: forgiveness, fraternal correction, consolation, enduring suffering, etc. Are:
1) Teach those who do not know
2) Give good advice to those who need it
3) Correct those who make mistakes
4) Forgive those who offend us
5) Comfort the sad
6) Suffer with patience the defects of others
7) Pray to God for the living and the deceased.
Matthew 25 Nacar Colunga Bible
31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, they will sit on his throne of glory.
32 And all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
33 and he will put the sheep on the right hand of him, and the goats on the left of him.
34 Then the King will say to those at his right hand: Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I went on a pilgrimage, and you welcomed me;'
36 I was naked, and you clothed me; sick, and you visited me; prisoner, and you came to see me.'
37 And the righteous will answer him: Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you drink?
38 When did we see you a pilgrim and welcome you, naked and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to see you?
40 And the King will say to them: Truly I say to you, as many times as you did this to one of these younger brothers of mine, you did it to me.
41 And he will say to those on the left: Depart from me, you cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry, and you gave me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to drink;'
43 I was a pilgrim, and you did not accommodate me; I was naked, and you did not clothe me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.'
44 Then they will answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a pilgrim, or sick, or in prison, and did not help you?
45 He will answer them and say, Truly I say to you, when you stopped doing this to one of these little ones, you did not do it to me.
46 And they will go to eternal punishment, and the righteous to eternal life.
